What the heat pump installation price depends on
Two houses of the same size often need very different installations. The difference comes down to three things.
System type
monoblock or split
- Monoblock: the whole refrigerant circuit is in the outdoor unit, only water pipes run into the house
- Split: a hydro module indoors and a refrigerant line between the two units
- Location and base for the outdoor unit, condensate drainage
Heat emitters
underfloor, radiators or fan coils
- Underfloor: lowest water temperature and highest SCOP
- Radiators: checking whether they are enough at 45–55 °C
- Fan coil units: heating and cooling from one system
Hot water and power supply
cylinder, buffer, phase
- A domestic hot water cylinder or a model with a built-in cylinder
- A buffer tank when there are few circuits or they shut off separately
- Single-phase or three-phase supply and protection in the distribution board
Why we don't publish a single installation price: replacing a gas boiler in an existing water system and a new system with a cylinder, buffer and three-phase supply are different jobs. One “average” price would be wrong for everyone. After the site visit you get an exact quote for the unit and installation.
What heat pump installation includes
A heat pump is not something you just plug in. Installation starts with a calculation and ends with setup.
- Free site visit in Varna and the region
- Room-by-room heat-loss calculation
- Choosing the unit's capacity and temperature class
- Choosing the location and base for the outdoor unit
- Hydraulic connection: pump, filter, expansion vessel, buffer if needed
- Electrical connection and protection in the distribution board
- Commissioning, bleeding the air and setting the heating curve
- Guidance on controls and seasonal maintenance
Why setup matters as much as the unit itself
The same heat pump can use a quarter more electricity just because of the water temperature. For a 120 m² house in Varna with underfloor heating at 30–35 °C you pay about 371 € a season; with old radiators at 50–55 °C, about 495 €.
Proper installation ensures:
- capacity matched to the house's heat loss, with no compressor short-cycling
- the lowest water temperature that still keeps you warm
- a heating curve that follows the outdoor temperature
- condensate drainage and free airflow around the outdoor unit
- the manufacturer's warranty stays valid
The cost by floor area and insulation is worked out in our article how much electricity a heat pump uses.
Heat pump installation steps
We agree every step in advance, from the first conversation to commissioning.
- 1
Site visit and calculation
We come to the site, measure the rooms and check the insulation, heat emitters and power supply. The capacity depends on all of this. Floor area on its own says little.
- 2
Quote for the system
You get a specific unit and a priced installation: what goes where and why. No hidden items after the job.
- 3
Installation and connection
We place the outdoor unit, connect the water circuit to the heating system and the cylinder, and make the electrical connection.
- 4
Startup and setup
We fill the system and bleed the air, set the heating curve to the outdoor temperature and show you the controls.
For a flat, air conditioners are usually enough
An air-to-water heat pump makes sense for a whole house with a water heating system or when replacing a boiler. In a flat, the same principle usually costs less with air conditioners, which are air-to-air heat pumps. The comparison is in our article heat pump for a flat.
If you will heat with air conditioners, see air conditioner installation prices in Varna.

Frequently asked questions about heat pump installation
How much does heat pump installation cost?
The installation price depends on the system type (monoblock or split), the heat emitters, the cylinder and the power supply. That's why we price it after a free site visit. Equipment in our catalogue starts from 3 196 € for an air-to-water heat pump.
How long does installation take?
It depends on the site: replacing a boiler in an existing water system is quicker than a new system with a cylinder and buffer. We give the exact timeframe in the quote after the site visit.
Is a site visit needed before installation?
Yes. Without a site visit we can't choose the right capacity and temperature class. The visit is free and carries no obligation.
Can the heat pump work with my old radiators?
Often, yes. We check whether the radiators give enough heat at 45–55 °C. If not, we suggest a medium- or high-temperature model or replacing individual radiators.
What power supply is needed?
Units up to about 10 kW are usually single-phase. More powerful ones are often three-phase. At the site visit we check the distribution board and protection.
Do you also install air conditioners for heating?
Yes. For a flat or individual rooms, an air conditioner (an air-to-air heat pump) is often the better-value choice. Prices are on the air conditioner installation page.
